S.M.A.R.T. Habit Saturday
Ok, I found a wonderful website called "The Lazy Organizer" and decided that SMART Habit Saturday is something that falls right in line with some of the habits I'm working on for my 101 in 1001 list. So I'm going to start keeping myself accountable by updating each Saturday on some of them. I'll start with one and add a new one each week. S.M.A.R.T., by the way, stands for Saving Money, Associations, Resources and Time - all of which I could stand to save!
So my chosen habit to focus on this week is walking for 30 minutes a day. I'll let you know next Saturday how it goes and what the next habit will be.

Hi Lori -
I never in a million years thought I could develop a walking habit and now almost 7 weeks later I've walked about 150 kms (90+ miles), averaging around 4.2 km or about 2.8 miles a day (give or take).
And trust me - I was so far from Gym Bunny material before it was laughable, LOL. Mind you, I haven't lost any WEIGHT from this endevour (did start out that way though!) but the walking is now a habit where there wasn't one before...and now if I have to miss a day's walking I even get anxious.
Obviously, I'm ill, LOL.
Good luck with setting the walking in stone! Do you have an iPod? Listening to podcasts/cool music is what kept me going...I found a 25min podcast that had a large archives section and my 50 odd min walk gave me the perfect timeframe to slot in two shows.
Cheers,
Lizzie

Good luck on your goal this week!
This is a great habit. I am actually working UP to walking 30 minutes a day by walking 15 minutes every other day...Good Luck!!
This is one of my habits too. I don't get to it every day but the days I do walk I feel so much better!
I love the poem at the top. I use the same one on my blog!
I'd love to walk too - what do you do with the kids, though??? Hope this goes well for you - I've really liked participating in SMART Habit Saturday, and I've been doing it for a whole 2 WEEKS now!!! :)
Gosh, everyone, thanks for all the encouragement!! At one point last year I was actually walking 3 miles a day with my best friend and then she moved and I quit (and gained 15 pounds!).
Karen, I have three options with the kids. I can walk on my treadmill (this was a huge splurge hubby let me get), or I can take them with, or I can go alone. They are old enough now that I leave them alone for up to two hours. That is a huge difference from when I had toddlers!
Welcome to SHS, I think walking is a great habit, I intend to add it myself next week. Good luck!
Kim
Lori,
That is a great habit to start with :) Good Luck and have a great week!

Welcome to SHS! It's a great place for encouragement {as you can see}. Good luck this week with your walking habit. So far I don't have any that include exercise, maybe one of these weeks.
Welcome aboard! Walking is a great habit to start out with. I look forward to the day when having the kids (ages 4 and 2) in tow isn't such a mental block for me when I walk. Good luck this week!
