Menu Plan Monday!
Here's what we'll be having in this house this week. For more great dinner ideas, be sure to stop by The Organizing Junkie!
Monday - Bezella w/rice and chopped salad
Tuesday – Spaghetti, garlic bread, salad
Wednesday – Mezze (hummous, pita bread, pickles, olives, tabouli)
Thursday – Penne Primavera w/turkey sausage
Friday – Cobb Salad
Saturday – Chicken Fajitas
Sunday – Sandwiches, cole slaw, chips
Monday – Grilled Shrimp Kebabs, rice
You know, I already had most of the meat for this week's menus, but somehow I still managed to spend over $100 at the grocery store!!! I'm going to be working on ways to save money while still preparing tasty and healthy meals for my family.
Any tips?

Tips on grocery savings:
First I plan a menu for the month. (That way I can cook meals that share certain ingredients and nothing goes to waste.) I shop once a month for all my meat, frozen, and canned goods - usually right after payday. I go weekly for fresh fruits and veggies, milk and juice, bread, etc.
Also, I always take a list with me. As I'm marking things off, I keep an estimate on my cost so far. (I round to the nearest half dollar and usually come within 10-20 cents of my estimate. This really impresses my 7-y-o son!) If I see I'm getting out of my spending range, I decide what can wait until the next payday (two weeks).
Do you make your own hummus? I've run into several hummus issues lately and would like some tips on either where to buy it or where to buy the ingredients for it.
I don't actually cook for the month. I don't have time for that with 2 young boys underfoot! :o) But planning our meals for the month and buying the bulk of our groceries right after payday helps with saving $$. And it saves time (and headache!) when I get ready to cook our meals each evening. I try to work in leftovers twice a week to cut down on kitchen time, too.
Thanks for your comment!
I'm always amazed how easy it is to spend money at the grocery store! One thing I REALLY need to get better at is using up leftovers before they go bad in the fridge. I find it very frustrating when there's multiple containers in the fridge, none of which have enough to feed an adult. I know a lot of people have 'smorgasbord' meals when this occurs, but I find that frustrating because when there's only a half-cup of any given thing, it's tough to divvy it up when more than one person wants some desperately!!
Your menu looks good. I really like cobb salad and its been awhile since I had it. I will have to remember to fix that soon.

Great menu! I dont know what we do either. Every week we go to the grocery store and spend around £80! Yesterday we spend £100 and we had less stuff than normal! Who knows?? lol
