Well, this should be interesting...

In an effort to help my kids learn about time management and responsibility, we are trying something new here. I am giving them each a list of their weekly assignments each Sunday and they have until 3 pm on Saturday to complete the list. If their level of work today is any indication, it's going to be an interesting Saturday.

Daniel has done nothing. Not reading, not one vocabulary lesson, not a single thing that could be considered work.

Emily at least started out strong. She read a couple of chapters of a biography on William Carey and did one vocabulary lesson. Then she decided to relax and take the rest of the day off.

Hmmm. Now, mind you, there are consequences to not completing their assignments. If even one item is not done, that child will lose all electronics for the week - computer, television, phone, video games. All gone.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Lori, I think you have the right idea about letting the kids be responsible for managing their time to get the things done that need to be done. It should be interesting to see how they deal with the consequences of either trying to finish everything at the last minute, or perhaps not finishing. This is very real world experience. I can't wait to hear how it goes as the week progresses!

That's a great idea!! With each of my kids after 3rd grade I no long manage their homework, they're totally on their own to do it and to remember to take it to school. It's hard to let them fail, but so much better to fail now than when they're at their first job.
Keep tough, just remember your long term goal. That's what helps me.
Good luck!!
Laurie
